These masks were created with handwoven textiles from the Kalinga community and 2 layers of electrostatic filtration. Earloops were made loose intentionally to accomodate wider face shapes. Knot the ends of the earloops to adjust the fit. We also created wider masks for those who prefer a wider mask coverage on the face.
Regular - 7.5" mask width
Wide - 8" mask width
Durable, light and breathable, the latest research shows that tightly woven cotton (mechanical filtration) combined with 2 layers of electrostatic filter is the MOST EFFECTIVE COMBINATION FOR BLOCKING INFECTIVE PARTICLES.
These are in traditional Kalinga patterns & symbols:
Jilurus - plain stripes reflecting the lines of farming fields and rivers
Lilagtob - inspired by the Gaddang tribe's "inammata", which are eyes to ward off evil
Kilae - for dark/burnt soil
Silambituwon with the Sakaw - "bituwon" is a star, a symbol of the eternal self and the "sakaw" is a rack that is commonly seen in Kalinga homes for drying dishes.
The colors of red, black, green, and yellow are commonly used to express bravery/protection/healing/life force (red), fertile soil (black), rice fields (green), and prosperity (yellow fields of rice ready for harvesting).
